Possible Film Distributor

Vertigo Entertainment could be a possible distributor for our film, as they have produced other phycological horror films.
Previous films: The Grudge, Ring 2, Dark Water, Shutter, Quarantine, The Uninvited, The Incident.
Or we could use a more independent film
compan, such as Greenway Distribution, as they also produce horror films.

Title Sequences for Horror films

Title Sequences for Psychological Horror films.

Here are some example title sequences that are included in various horror films, above is the screencap of the Seven title sequence, with it being a psychological horror film, the layout for the title panels are fairly dark themed, with low set colours and sharp and distorted text that really sets the tone of the film from the start. The idea that the title sequence adopts such an initally dark and deep theme is something to take note of, as it sets the audience up by giving them clues as to what style of film it is going to be as the sequence progresses.

This is another example of a horror title sequence, again there is the consistent use of these dark colours that really set the tone to the film before it has even properly started, these title sequences featured also have low deep music to accompany them, adding to the horror theme when it is paired with the images that are included in the sequence. Again in this title sequence we have the use of sharp text that stands out over the dark backgrounds in the panels and really contrasts well with the sequence overall.

Conventions of Psychological horror films

Conventions of psychological horror films
there are many expected conventions in a horror film, which helps the audience to identify the film and to help us make our horror film successful.

Weapons
Weapons in horror films are a vital aspect of the plot and experience. however in psychological horrors, non physical weapons are used and instead are more supernatural or psychologically based. for instance,n using fear as a weapon to physically and mentally incapacitate victims, as they are too scared to move or act.

Setting
There are many conventions for settings of a psychological horror film, like, a forest, which connotes mystery, making it perfect for a psychological horror, due to mystery being a key theme of the genre. another effective setting would be inside a house. this is effective, because the setting defies conventions, as homes usually have connotations of safety, creating a suprise for the audience.

Characters
Often in psychological horrors, the antagonists are disturbed or tormented indivisuduals who become internal monsters and loose their morality. The victim is often female, as in horror films, women are represented to be weaker and vunrable.

Conventions of psychological Horror films

When creating a film it's always important to take notice of any source material or any similar films that can be used as influences and act as a foundation on which the film can be built upon.

The most important film when creating a film of this specific genre is to correctly and effectively convey the psychological aspect of the film, as it needs to contain deeper mental themes to be classified as a psychological horrror. The more general approaches to this particular genre include themes that include.

Mental scarring, mental health problems with the main character or protagonist. It can also look over a tradgic event that would occur in everyday life, essentially turning what is a normal situation, into something more deep and sinister through the use of underlying tones and establishing a sinister bleak look in some of the shots to get the feel for the dark vibe that needs to be conveyed.

A typical inclusion of psychological horrors is the use of weaponry, whether it be for the protagonist or antagonist within the film, weapons are a common theme with this genre as it suggests a decline of the characters mental health with the use of weapons such as knives for example.

Something that works in tandem with the use of weaponry is also the setting, for example if a murder or attack is going to take place, then the setting would have to be appropriate but also realistic for this event to occur, for example a dark path or a wooded area would be considered a suitable setting for one of these events to take place. So to reiterate, it's important for the setting to both be dark and disturbing and realistic.

Possible film distributor

Possible film distributor

During the production process of the film, it is vital that they target a distributor to send out their finished film upon its completion.

In the terms of finding an appropriate distributor for our film, we have found a few independent film distributors located in the UK. These distributors have done movies that are similar to our genre which makes these few an obvious selection due to their experience with dealing with this specific genere that is relevant to our film.

One of the Uk distributors we have highlighted which would be appropriate is Studio Canal. They have distributed a few horror and thriller films that match the genre of the film that we are producing. Above is an example of a film that studio canal has distributed. I feel like this distrubutpr would be the most appropriate choice for our film considering their film upload portfoilio.
